Three fewer hours a day spent collecting fees at a law firm

A law firm collected every client fee by hand. It now runs 99 active fees from a panel connected to MONEI, and the lawyer estimates he has freed up about three hours a day.

Before

Until February 2026, every fee depended on the lawyer who runs the firm. To collect it, he either went into Stripe and created a payment by hand for that client, or gave the client the bank account details for a transfer. Transfers did not repeat by themselves, so he had to keep track of when each client's next payment was due.

The information was split between Stripe, the bank and his memory, so he could not hand it over.

Why MONEI

The firm chose MONEI as its payment gateway for four reasons: its fees are low; people close to the lawyer had had funds held by other gateways and he did not want to take that risk; it let him set up subscriptions and recurring payments the way he wanted; and it is a Spanish company.

What I built

I started on 8 January and the panel was in use in February. It is a single screen: you create a fee on the left and see all of them, with their status, on the right.

To set up a fee you only need the name, email, monthly amount, and start and end dates. The panel creates the subscription in MONEI and the client receives the payment link by email, SMS or WhatsApp.
The subscription ends by itself on the end date. If it starts later, nothing is charged until that day.
If a payment fails, it is retried automatically on the days of the month the firm chose.
Each fee's status (pending, active or cancelled) updates itself from MONEI's notifications.
I connected the payments to Holded, the firm's invoicing software, so each payment generates its invoice.

A search of its own

Finding a subscription in MONEI's dashboard was slow. So the panel has its own search: type part of the name, email, phone number or ID and the client's fee appears, with its status and dates.

An administrator handles payments from the panel.
There is one place to see who has paid, who is pending and when each fee ends.
Nobody has to remember to chase a failed payment, because it is retried automatically.

After delivery

I maintain it for a monthly fee. Since delivery I have updated its dependencies and kept improving the panel as the firm needed.
